Since Bozeman was first settled in 1864 with a single log cabin, it's population has steadily grown into an eclectic mix of ranchers, artists, professors, ski enthusiasts and entrepreneurs drawn by traditional values, beautiful scenery and world class recreational opportunities.
In 1893, the Agricultural College of the State of Montana was founded. After changing names several times, the college is what we now know as Montana State University-Bozeman. It has celebrated national and international recognition for its excellence in undergraduate and graduate studies in the liberal arts and sciences, agriculture, architecture, education, engineering, health and human development and nursing. Because of its commitment to high academic standards, Montana State University is routinely listed by U.S. News and World Report as one of America's "best buys" for undergraduate education.
In 2003 Montana State University ranked fifth on Outside Magazine's list of "40 best college towns." With more than 12,000 students who enjoy what Montana offers by way of outdoor adventure, the school environment is decidedly technical; offering degrees such as architecture, engineering and sciences.
Bozeman is one of the fastest growing communities in Montana and has a relatively young population due in large part to the college and the environment that is created by it.
